About the Gallery

Michael Cunningham, Artist and his wife Norma, owners of the gallery, have been in business since 1997. Michaels' work is the major focus of the online gallery with exhibitions featuring emerging and world-renowned Artists.

The collection demonstrates Michael's divergent talent. Each series manages to create emotion with color, feeling and themes. The Colors of Music, Family, Lovers and The Colors of Flowers all relate to the natural world, the power of expressionistic compositions and dynamic color.

In January 2000, Michael was commissioned by the State of California, Nutrition Network to create a painting that would inspire healthy lifestyles for African Americans. "Afternoon in the Park" an oil painting depicting a family on a picnic, partaking of fruits and vegetables, has been the focus of several campaigns and shows. Posters, recipe cards, games and Bill Boards have been distributed all over California showing the "Afternoon in the Park" image. The image can be seen in our On Line Gallery.

Review by Matt Lamb, Santa Ana, California:
Mr. Cunningham's art represents a dynamic convergence of color and music in the timeless expression of "snapshot oneness" to where, at one place, the peace of the moment frees us to see more, feel more and, ultimately, be more. The elegance of a musician wrapping his burgeoning hands around the soul of his instrument searching to strike the tenor of life's truest notes is in parity to Mike's own play on paint in his compositions of stealing a secret moment in the evocation of reaching out to his audience's own creative inspiration in the dance of their mind's eye. As a native from New York City, Mr. Cunningham was schooled in the street experience of the newly rediscovered Harlem Renaissance, during the early and late 70s, as the reawakening sparked waves of possibilities and obstacles for the then, young man, coming to terms with life for Black America. The confluence of jazz, as the unique addition by African Americans to the American culture, became the guiding beacon and core influence in the amalgamation of his creative pilgrimage. Mr. Cunningham's musical series "The Colors of Music" is a playful montage of the interplay between the musician and his instrument with the unique masking of a joyful butterfly in each piece as a symbol of the delicate balance of maintaining each moment's innocence.

What is a Giclee?
Giclee means to spray (in French), Iris Giclee is a system of camera-scanners, digital files, computerized color correction, vibrating crystals, inks that are highly stable, canvas papers and real human hands and eyes. It's an operatic production of art and high tech.
After the original painting is converted into digital form, by camera or scanner and color corrected to insure the most accurate and close match to the original piece of art, the Iris printer is used to create the Giclee. The image is captured on archival paper of the finest quality, predicted to survive for 99 years.
